  • Background

“When growing up with immigrant parents, work ethic is drilled into you.”

Alpana’s parents were from Fiji, and they sacrificed much for her to live a good life. Growing up, Alpana learned that being lazy is disrespectful, and that if you work hard, the worst parts of life are temporary.

At age 26, Alpana became the worlds youngest female Master Sommelier. She also hosted the multi-Emmy award winning show, Check Please! for 12 years.

  • How do I know what to do for the rest of my life?

Alpana- “There are things that push and pull you. But you have to start somewhere. For me, failure wasn’t an option. Not letting failure be an option is very powerful, and helps you focus on just one singular goal. Identify what you want to accomplish and make that your end goal.”

  • Advice for younger female generations?

“Comparison is the thief of joy. Comparing yourself does nothing but cloud our happiness with jealousy. After high school you’re exposed to girls all over the world; and we have to remember social media is only a highlight of someone’s life. Social media tempts us to think things, such as why is my life not like theirs? My advice is to find your inner security and confidence. Remember that this is your story, your movie, and your script.”

  • Guidance to girls who want to go into business?

“Self care is the most important care. Eat well, manage stress and connect with others. “

“Leadership can be isolating, so find pockets of peace. “

  • Fun facts?

Alpana loves cooking, movies, photography, and travel!

Alpana doesn’t have a driver license. She’s too busy!

  • What else do you want to do?

    Alpana has run a marathon.

But now her personal goal is to start new sport and master it!

Alpana has a rescue dog named Darla that she adores.

Darla was originally from Alabama.
